20Nine - San Antonio

20Nine in San Antonio was our choice for our New Years Eve Dinner. We chose this restaurant on the basis of some feedback about it being wine friendly and having a great one list.

We were not disappointed, on the contrary this has to be one of the best I have visited in a  long time. The wine list was extensive, very reasonably priced and was backed up by knowledgeable staff.

A lot of wine friendly restaurants often fall down on the food, not so 20None, the food was excellent quality. I had the prime rib, a generous serving of succulent beef complete with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Heather had the Salmon and was equally impressed.

The great and somewhat unique feature of 20Nine is the fact that the wine on the list are all available for takeaway at 50% of the wine list price. This tells you that the markup is very respectable and you can pick up some great bargains. I was able to get two magnums of Far Niente '07 Oakville Cabernet which is not normally available as well as 6 bottles of Mi Sueno Pinot Noir. At the table we enjoyed a glass of 2009 Beringer Chardonnay Private Reserve Napa Valley followed by a bottle of 2009 Rex Hill Willamette Valley Pinot Noir.

Owner Troy is a great host, always willing to talk about wine and to share his extensive knowledge.
