08 Ch. Montelena Estate Cabernet ($145) ☺☺☺

The Chateau Montelena Estate Cabernet has historically been a great wine for cellaring. Occasionally a quick peak early on can reveal how this wine will last and whether the balance and stars are aligned. In this case the wine we drank was probably a bit young but was still very enjoyable. The nose started with black cherries, vanilla, chocolate and hints of leather. In the glass it opens up beautifully and presents a balanced wine with good tannins, spicy black fruit and a hint of liquorice. I think the next time to try this will be in a t least two years and, I for one, am looking forward to it.
