04 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet ($65) ☺☺☺☺☺

Following on from their success as a 5 star wine for the 05 Cabernet came this blockbuster from 2004. These wines re getting to their peak right now and patience certainly has been rewarded. I have never really got the "drink them early" attitude and would rather wait and risk losing the wines as in most cases the mature Cabernets are stunning. This 04 certainly hit the mark with a nice steak. Deep, deep black fruit with a hint of mint and cherry with ladings of smooth tannins on the nose. On the palate there are hints of chocolate, molasses and cedar wood. I could get used to drinking this every day, but will keep it for special events like Fathers Day.

Happy Fathers Day to all of you, you know who you are !!

08 Inman Thorn Ridge Pinot Noir ($56) ☺☺☺☺

In previous tastings we have tried the 06 and the 07, so it was interesting to try the 08 offering from Kathleen Inman. The pedigree of the winemaker comes through despite this being a tough year for grape growers. The nose is full of cherry cola, darjeeling tea and a hint of lush cherry. The palate is floral, delicate and evolves in the glass. Of all the Thorn Ridge offerings I like the 07 the best but this 08 comes a close second.
